Re: Santa Fe PRIDE & Sportsmanship
Date: 9/14/2023
There is nothing better than watching our Chiefs and Lady Chiefs go out there and compete. During these competitions, they learn so many important things. We all know this. Of those things, learning how to respond appropriately to adverse situations is on the top of the list. Modeling good sportsmanship is an adult responsibility, and is one that seems to have diminished vastly over the years, to the point that it is very difficult to find officials and coaches. We can do better.
This year we will be focusing on sportsmanship with our coaches and student athletes. Please join us in this effort. We all know there will be tough situations for the kids, calls by the officials or decisions made by the coaches that we don’t agree with. When these adversities occur, let’s model to our kids out there competing, our youth in the stands and our guests what true Santa Fe PRIDE looks like.
If there is a moment where we lose composure, it’s appropriate that the appointed supervisor will respond as needed; please take whatever que or direction is given with grace and everyone can move on. If necessary, a letter will be sent by the district noting the incident and any potential action. Please know that our goal is to simply have a great environment for our student athletes, officials, coaches and fans. Again, please join us in our focus on sportsmanship. It’s the right thing to do.
Respectfully,
Derek Lark
Superintendent- Santa Fe R-X School
