Cell Phone Policy Update – Senate Bill 68
At the high school we’ve been working to create a focused, distraction-free learning environment, and implemented no phones in the classroom last year. In alignment with new Missouri Senate Bill 68, we are now required to implement a school-wide cell phone and smart device restriction from the start of the school day to the end.
This policy supports stronger student engagement, improved social interaction, and fewer classroom disruptions.
What This Means for Students and Families:
Cell phones, earbuds, smart watches, and similar devices must be turned off and stored away throughout the school day.
If your child needs to reach you, they may come to the office and call at an appropriate time.
Students should plan ahead for the day’s activities (e.g., bringing needed materials or gear), as they will no longer be able to simply send a text during the day.
Per Senate Bill 68 we are to have consequences established to enforce the policy. You will find it is a similar practice that we utilized last year if students were on their phones during class time.
Consequences for Violations:
1st Offense: Device held in the office; student may pick it up at the end of the day; parent notified.
2nd Offense: Device held in the off and parent must pick up the device.
3rd Offense: Parent pickup required + detention assigned.
4th Offense: Continued violations will be treated as insubordination, with further disciplinary consequences.
We appreciate your support as we implement this change. We are confident it will enhance the overall learning experience and help our students stay focused on their academic and personal growth.
Thank you for your partnership. We look forward to a successful and productive school year!
Sincerely,
Paula Brown
